What a powerful, heart touching story Joan Deneve has crafted in Saving Eric. I picked up the book after seeing it recommended by a friend and I have not been disappointed. Just the opposite actually. I am thoroughly impressed with Joan's storytelling gift and completely in love with the characters she's created. Except for the bad guy of course.Everything about this story line drew me from Eric's exciting CIA occupation and the betrayal that leaves him nearly dead, to the woman who helps heal his outer wounds. But it is the powerful truth of God redeeming what's broken, fitting the pieces back together in such a way the mended vessel draws others to Him that makes this book a stand out debut. At one point, tears were streaming down my face and I had to put the book down to go find tissue. But don't worry. There is no sad ending here. In fact, it's a fantastic, completely satisfying ending to a wonderful story, and I eagerly look forward to many, many more from this author!

I have waited two years to get to write this review. So thrilled readers can finally get to know THE Eric Templeton that I already know and love. The author is my writing partner but less that discount the validity of my review, those that will follow will back up what I'm about to say. At its core this novel is a hero journey. A well told novel with a perfect harmony of adventure and espionage, self discovery and redemption, with a romantic thread romance readers will enjoy. This is one of those books that has a strong salvation message that is very overt but so well crafted into a dynamic and engaging plot it never feels preachy or wears on the reader. Among a diverse and strong cast of supporting characters, the hero Eric Templeton is just epic. He's everything a reader hopes for in a hero from his most broken moments to his most fulfilling triumphs.
As a busy mom of 3 small ones, I do well to finish a meal in peace or visit the bathroom alone, let alone complete reading a book of any length (though I was an avid reader in a previous life!) However, I had no trouble making the time to finish this one! What a wonderful page-turner it was! I looked forward to squeezing in my reading time as often as possible so that I could follow the very well-developed characters through multiple superb sub-plots that are interwoven through this volume. I became emotionally "attached" to each character as the story progressed....realizing quickly that I held a very precise minds-eye image of each one of them as a result of the great descriptions the author provides for each character's physical appearance, personality and quirks. By the end, I felt I had a whole new group of "friends." I was tremendously impressed with the seamless manner in which the author alternated between the underlying plots/storylines so that I never got bored and was never able to anticipate the next development in the story. I've never been to Africa, but after reading Saving Eric, I both feel that I have spent some time there and that I want to go back! Amongst all the other wonderful things I can say about this book, it is replete with beautiful and timeless spiritual truths of unconditional love and redemption's great cost and is a beautiful portrayal of the changed life in Christ. And, on a lighter note, this animal lover is thrilled with the author's incorporation of her *most* favorite species throughout this volume! -) I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone with a love for suspenseful reads, romance, and inspiring Christian fiction. I do not generally gravitate to the fiction genre, but this one had me hooked from the start. The only downside? I completed the book yesterday and feel like I said a reluctant "goodbye" to a group of close friends. I so look forward to the next installment in this series!
What a blessing! This book came highly recommended by my daughter who read it in two days so I took the ebook on my flight to Israel. Altough I have over 2,000 book in my library, I NEVER read fiction books. However, this book sure passed the time much faster than all of the heavy reading to which I am accustomed.
This book is for you if you want to read something that will move you (even if you are a macho man); I mean knots in the stomach and fighting back the tears on several occasions. I had to close the I-pad to gain composure lest I frighten my wife or fellow passengers.
The story line spoke to me on a personal level and moved my heart to a new level of gratitude for Jesus Christ!
This book is about redemption and second chances; about a Saviour who loves His creation enough to pay their debt on the cross; about it never being too late or hopeless. The characters and their lives are fictional yet so real and full of energy and with so much depth. Truly an inspiration!
The plot was unpredictable and the story line was something that I would love to share with those whom I love who do not have the same relationship with Christ that I have. This book is both a joy to read and a wonderful witnessing tool with a clear gospel account. Thank you for that most of all!
After authoring ten non-fiction books myself, I can only wish that I had the talents and abilities that God has gifted Joan Deneve. Keep up the great work and I will read all of your writing…probably the only fiction books on my “to read” list.
